My performance of the year! He he he! You might get a kick out of watching the short practice clip. Hopefully, I will be able to post the real thing later.

"The Red Feather Ladies Aboard the S.S. Titantica" is coming on March 5, 2010 to the Spokane Southside Senior Center.

A very important guest is missing aboard the ship "S.S. Titanica." I play Charlene. Charlene takes her newly appointed position as Cruise Activity Director very seriously. She has so many games on her mind, that they keep popping up in her conversations. She will arrive early to the dinner, converse with the guests and try to convince them that she has no idea what happened to the special guest, but has suspicions on who does.

The Mystery Dinner theater is produced by the Southside Senior Center actors and directed by Judy Brown.

Wow! What a thrill this was to perform the "Shim Sham" at KHQ6 News in Spokane, Washington. As you can see, we were all smiles even though it was bright and early the morning of April 24, 2009. That's me on the right in the lavender vest. It's an honor to be a member of the "Tap Grandmas" of Spokane.

The Divas of Day Time Soap and a Huge Fan--Me!

Kassie DePavia "Blair Cramer" and Kathy Brier "Marci Walsh" on "One Life to Live", Me "Bobbie Olivo Cagle," and Bobbie Diane Eakes "Krystal Carey" on "All My Children." April 4th, at the Northern Quest Casino in Spokane, Washington.

I truly enjoyed watching these Divas from my favorite daytime soaps. The girls are so amazing both on and off stage. Their voices are beautiful and radiated excitement and fun throughout the Northern Quest Casino entertainment room. Walt Willy "Jackson Montgomery" from "All My Children" was there too with his comedy act. I couldn't wait to visit with each of them after the show and they were generous with their time. What made me really happy, as I left, I glanced back and noticed each of them walking off with my book tucked carefully in their arms and signed by me.

I also received a hug from Trevor St. John's dad who was sitting at the table next to me. Trevor "Todd Manning" on "One Life to Live" is from Spokane.

I've always wanted to see my favorite soap stars. I'm glad Spokane is finally getting a piece of the action. Fun and memorable--I highly recommend their show. Good luck Divas! Some dates coming up...hopefully in

I will be visiting Mom next week for several days and for her 91st birthday. Most of my brothers and sisters will be there, too. I will post again when I return to tell you about all the fun.

March 10, 2009 I'm back!

Mom's birthday with the brothers and sisters was an amazing visit--so many beautiful memories to keep and sibling bondings. We played games all day that kept us in laughter and revved up our competitive drive to win. Then we spent a few hours writing in our autograph books I made.

Some of the sisters and brothers bought Mom a new 2009 Buick Lucerne, hot crystal red! Mom's excitement generated throughout the parking lot with standby's wishing they were a part of our family. Her hands shook as she was given the keys.

Nello, the oldest son, took Mom for her first spin to O'Connor Hospital to visit her only sister, Marie. Marie has been finally freed of MRSA, a staff infection which has kept her hospitalized for nearly a year in a sterile environment with no hugs and kisses. She now is trying to regain her strength to return home. The excitement continued when she saw Mom and the two talked. It sounded like a big convention with the siblings standing outside the door, each waiting to have their visit with Auntie Marie.

The Mountain Democrat in Placer County, California where my brother Nello lives, published a review of my book in honor of Mom. It was a wonderful surprise.

My mind photographed that very special moment when I handed Mom the finished book. We were both speechless and filled with joy. Our eyes teared just a little. I was so proud and so was she. I keep remembering back in 1970, when I was in the hospital recovering from a tragic toboggan accident. I told Mom that I was going to write a book about her and the family. She said, "OK" not realizing that I would actually do it some day. It took me nearly forty years to realize my dream. Thank you God. Through You--all things are possible.

I can't believe I talked the whole flight home from San Jose to Spokane to my seat-mate. I didn't know him and I don't think he got a word in inch wise. I usually sleep on the return flight, but I was excited about editing my book and the young man listened. He was wearing a dark pinned-striped suit and had a briefcase, so I figured he was either going or returning on a business trip and didn't think much more of it. The next thing I knew the plane was landing and I apologized for not even asking his name. He stood up to retrieve his overhead luggage and while reaching inside his suit pocket for a business card to give to me he said, "I'll make you a deal. When you publish your book, you send me a copy, and I will send you a case of my finest crab." Printed on the card read, Ken Doris, President of Harbor Crown Seafood, Inc. and Dutch Harbor Plant. I immediately responded, "Well, I know who's going to get the better end of this deal!" and he smiled.

Nearly two years later, when I published my book, I went looking for his card that I filed away under future contacts. I was pleased to find it stapled to a 8 1/2" x 11" piece of paper. I sent him an e-mail reminding him of the deal he made with me and followed it up with a phone call. He was out of town. Concerned it might have gone into the junk file, I asked his secretary if she wouldn't mind checking with him the next time he phoned in if he received my e-mail. The secretary asked me about the contents and she excitedly responded that he did receive it. She said he had told all of his employees about our plane acquaintance and my e-mail. So after I sent him my book I e-mailed him again and said, "Hi Ken, I spoke to your secretary. She said you received my book and got a kick out of my last message. Well, so is it worth sending me a case of crab like you said you would? Looking forward to hearing back from you." His response was, "ABSOLUTELY! I've got your address so I'll send a case of 16/20's "fresh cooked" (non-frozen) next week. I'll have my staff inform you of the arrival date. Cheers-

The crab was soooooooo good and didn't even need butter. I cracked open a bottle of champagne and celebrated. Thanks Ken!

I got an order from a lady through PayPal. I wrote back that her name sounded familiar, asked if I had met her and who she wanted me to sign the book to. Her reply was so touching it brought me to tears and I wanted to share this message and moment with everyone. I feel blessed and honored with such a request. I can't imagine anything more special than this.

"I don't think we have met. I would love for you to sign it to Katrina. We as a branch of Washington Trust have adopted her family for Christmas through the Wishing Star. She is a mother of 7 and requested your book as her gift. I appreciate you signing it for us. Thank you!"

While I was in California for a 2008 family reunion Notre Dame High School, my alma mater, offered me my first book signing/presentation. They planned the whole event, which took me by surprise. I was thankful for their great support.

The number "16" appears to be magical and gives me goose-bumps at times. I ordered 1,000 books, a limited edition of 16 x MOM--they were shipped 16 to a box. My brother Steve, was child number 16, and the only one of the 16 children to have passed on November 16, 2002. The one date available for a book presentation in my homeowners association happened to be August 16. My first featured article was in the Deer Park Tribune on page 16 and accented on the top of the front page "Loon Lake woman pens book about her mother...Page 16." Then The Loon Lake Times followed with a featured article on page 16, too. I like to believe the "16's" are more than coincidences and feel they are Steve's thumbprints sent by God as a blessing to Mom.

I Joined the Tap Grandmas in 2005 and now I also clog. I love to dance and am happy to be amongst other women who have the same dreams of dancing no matter what age.

Tap Grandmas in Spokane - All About Us

Performing in the style of Rhythm Tap, the Tap Grandmas are a group of women who love to perform! They are a non-profit charitable dance company in which rhythm tap is a primary focus. H.E.A.R.T. (Homeless, Education, and Resource Team) in the Spokane School District, is their main charity. Donations provide extra curricular activities for homeless school children. Local fees are $100 a performance. Out of town shows are negotiated accordingly. It is their belief that “to dance is to live.”

16X MOM is a wonderful book that was written by a high school classmate of mine, Bobbie (Barbara) Olivo Cagle. What a fun read! On the surface the book is about Bobbie's amazing mother Rose who had 16 children....Rose's childhood and her raising of her enormous family. But the book really is so much more than that! The book is chockful of Rose's family history as well as documented California history and has hundreds of pictures and anecdotes interspersed with the triumphs and tragedies of family life. The descriptions are rich and detailed and the book is an inspiration and a joy! The reader becomes involved in the real life characters and at the same time you are swept into life in California from the turn of the 19th century until the present.
Rose Olivo is still alive and well, by the way. She will turn 91 in March and is still spritely and full of as many insightful witticisms as ever.
